Typically used on larger roofs.
Very aesthetically pleasing.
5" K Style: Most common gutter system. From its cost effectiveness to material availability this is usually a good choice here in the flathead valley. We don't typically have many torrential downpours and when we do this system will handle most roofs as long as the downspouts are sized properly and in the right locations.
6"K Style: This system typically installed on commercial buildings and buildings with large roofs. It can carry up to twice the amount of water as a 5" K Gutter. However, a 6"K gutter will be holding a lot more weight with snow/ice buildup and also when it is clogged, and is more susceptible to failure if proper installation techniques are not used or is not maintained properly.
6" Half Round: The most aesthetically pleasing gutter system. This gutter system will add to the curb appeal of the home. A 6" Half-Round gutter will carry the same amount of water and a 5" K style gutter. Half-Round gutter systems are significantly more expensive due to the additional length of install time and material costs are significantly higher.
Choosing the correct downspouts is also a very important part of the gutter system. Click the button to learn more.
Most commonly used on 5" Gutters
Used on 6" K Gutters. Can also be used on 5" K Gutters
Typically used with Half-Round gutter systems. Can also be used on 5" K
Choosing the correct downspout size and location is just as essential as the gutter themselves. Proper planning for drainage is very important. A gutter system installed without proper drainage planning can lead to dysfunctional gutter systems. This can cause pre-mature system failure and also cause extensive property damage.
Optimally, A downspout should be installed per every 40ft of gutter. Sometimes this is not possible because of building designs.
Brief Description of downspouts
2x3" Downspout: Drains ~900sqft of roof. This is the most commonly used. Very easy to work with and materials are readily available.
3x4" Downspout: Drains ~1800sqft of roof. This is the standard for a 6"K gutter system. Is also used when a 2x3" downspout will not be sufficient. The only downside to a 3x4 downspout is labor/material costs are higher than the 2x3.
-This downspout can also be installed to prevent downspout/gutter clogs. With the additional size and drainage capacity, debris will be more likely to flush through the downspout rather than get clogged. Can be a great alternative to gutter covers.
3" Round Downspout: Drains ~1000sqft of roof. This is the standard for Half-Round gutter systems. Can also be used with 5" K style gutters to add more curb appeal.
